Becknology Days in Atlanta is the equivalent to a county fair exclusively for farmers. There are, after all, prizes, rides and popcorn.

This is the first time all summer that I have had to wish for rain. We could use some to help the later-planted beans finish out nicely. Crops continue to look very good. We have some early-planted beans that we will cut by Sept. 10. I have talked with some of my crop insurance clients that are shelling corn west of Indy. What they thought was a bumper crop has just been average at best. I have said all along that the corn crop was hurt worse by the wet weather than most thought, and this is starting to be evident. I also thought all along that the beans took the wet weather much better than the corn. All the speculation will be over when the combines roll.
Andrew is now a freshman. The freshman class is using our shop to build their float for Homecoming. They were all over here Saturday working on it. They had power tools running all over the place. When they left, I checked for any body parts lying around and found none, so I guess I will get away without a lawsuit this time. They were all really nice. We had a big cookout when they were done working.
I got a chance to travel this past week with my crop insurance business. I was in central Michigan and eastern Ohio. Crops in Michigan were hurting badly from drought stress, but the crops in Ohio looked very good. I had a good visit with some of my clients in these areas.
