Harvest time for Beck’s calls for high maintenance equipment

    Forget about waiting, harvest has begun! Corn was drying — or dying — down fast this past week, so many decided to shell a load or two. Or more. I imagine most will start in earnest this week. I haven’t heard any yields to get excited about, though. The heat definitely took its toll, and you see a lot of tip back and shallow kernel depth in the ears. Speaking of heat, forecast is back in the 90s this week, but I hope it’s only a matter of time until real fall weather stays. I fear the beans may have gone the same route as the corn, and the nice rain a week or so ago was too late, but time will tell. Most fields are just barely turning. If corn continues to come out like it is starting, there will be a good break between corn harvest and starting on beans, but we still ought to be done earlier than the last two years! Be safe.
